It all started at the grand old age of 2 years 10 months old! I had copied my mom’s simple drawings when she was teaching me how to use a pen, I can’t remember that far back but I'm sure that’s what sparked my passion! How great were these drawing’s for such a young age!

Let’s start from the beginning…

Fast forward to 5 years old and I had seen an article about battery hens in a local magazine. Unsure about what battery hens were I asked my mother who told me the horrors that battery hens endure. I felt sorry for them and the only way I knew how to express my hurt and anger was to draw those beautiful hens.

I had been given some pencils and a drawing book for Christmas that year and I set about drawing those poor hens, that was when I got the bug. A few years later my bedroom walls were plastered in my artwork, I had turned it into my very own art gallery and would charge my family members 20p to come and visit.

Art turns quiet moments into stories that speak without words.

Fast forward to now, I'm middle aged with 2 teenage children, I work full time at an engineering company within a commercial team. I’m lucky enough to work my hours over 4 days so I get an extra day to focus on my art and create tutorials for my aspiring students. I really love teaching people to draw because it’s like watching confidence take shape on the page. For me, teaching art isn’t just about technique; it’s about encouraging curiosity, patience, and the joy of seeing the world with a more creative eye! Trust me, once you start drawing and admiring all the different colours, you will never look at anything the same again!

One day I hope to focus on my art full time and perhaps one day I will own a real gallery! and have a garden big enough for some battery hens :-)

I have made mistakes, and I have learnt a lot of lessons since I first picked up that pen all those years ago, but one thing I keep going back to is my easy grid system, you just can’t go wrong! Go check it out in the shop menu, you won’t be disappointed.

Over the years I have dabbled with graphite, pastel, coloured pencils and watercolours. I sometimes draw fantasy but I focus mainly on animals, perhaps the battery hens really did have an impact on me!

Happy drawing!
